Nokia India has announced that it has partnered with India’s leading telecom operators, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone for operator billing process and in-app billing. Per the operator billing, post-paid customers of these operators can buy digital content such as apps, songs, and others from the Nokia Store and pay through their monthly mobile bill. For pre-paid customers, they can pay using their phone balance. While the in-application billing will allows customers to buy content from within an application.
We believe that this will give a much needed boost to India’s ailing paid content market. India is primarily a cash economy and not all people have a credit card. More so, credit card holders, even in metro and tier-1 cities, do not feel secure in transacting through their credit cards over mobile devices. Thus, we believe that giving the option of paying through monthly bill/available phone balance, will increase the uptake of paid content thereby giving a boost to the local mobile VAS industry.
